Sarah Colyn Scholl, is an experimental artist creating work in both puppetry and visual art. Originally from Texas now based in Brooklyn NY, Sarah’s artistic obsession is to understand and develop what they see as breathing paintings. This is what drives their artistic practice. The play surrounding and sometimes separating visual art and the wonderment of puppetry and performance spurns the questions at the center of Sarah’s making. Using surrealism and symbolism, the work reveals the bitter playfulness of life where there are no lies and no truth. This contradictory practice is what Sarah is inspired to give, believing it to hold somehow a greater sense of stability and vision of reality. Some of Sarah’s recent credits include the creation and puppetry of In the Presence of Monsters, a site-specific piece developed and performed in Bomarzo and Rome, Italy. The development of Ancient Future, a misadventure musical looking at art and activism over time, created by the company To Rena Love Us, witch Sarah is a core member of. Sarah has also just returned from a month long stay in Sukawati, Bali where they studying shadow puppetry with local master Mardika Bhuwana.
